The Supreme State Security Court yesterday canceled an interior minister's decree ordering the arrest of Ridha Abdel Rahman, a relative to Dr. Ahmed Subhi Mansour, the leader of the Quranists. The court enjoined the Interior Ministry on releasing him due to lack of arrest justifications. Adel Ramadan, Abdel Rahman's lawyer, said they would request the ministry to put the court ruling into effect and to adhere to the rulings and principles that the court adopted. The court, he said, has announced its rejection of arresting people for their religious beliefs through many of its previous rulings. Abdel Rahman, 32, works as a social worker at Abu Herez Religious Institute in Sharkia. He was banned from being visited since his arrest last October 27, said Ramadan. His family tried but failed to visit him during Bairam, and the State Security Prosecution neither issued a provisional detention against him nor investigated him on charges of blasphemy.
