Cairo – TV presenter Amr Abdel Hamied broadcast a report on Monday on Egypt's first female mesaharati during the holy month of Ramadan. Mesaharati, or night caller, is someone who strolls through the streets before dawn and bangs his/her drums to wake people for their sohour meal (a light meal Muslims take before they begin the dawn-to-dusk fasting). In the report broadcast on TEN TV channel's "Public Opinion" program, Dalal Mahmoud pointed out that she works as Mesaharati, although her main job is ironer. Mahmoud explained she insisted to work as Mesaharati after the death of her brother, who did the same work for 21 years. She stated that "Mesaharati" is not a job, but it may be a temporary one. Mahmoud noted she is very happy when children gather around her and hear her voice. She added that such a job is very difficult, but enjoyable.
