Detroit, Michigan – A Muslim Egyptian, first-generation American, has announced his bid to become the governor of Michigan. The 32-year-old doctor and public health activist, Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed, will resign his position as health director to run for governor of Michigan in the 2018 Democratic Party primary, Detroit News reported On February 9, 2017. If elected, El-Sayed will earn the title as "first Muslim governor", as well as "second youngest governor", after former US President Bill Clinton became "the youngest governor of the country" in 1978. Detroit's Dearborn attracts the attention as a city where Arab-Americans live intensely. Michigan is known as one of the states where Islamophobia has shockingly risen. At the same time, Dearborn is described as one of the cities targeted by anti-Muslim activists in the USA, misleading news and conspiracy theories.
