A wide parliamentary controversy has erupted in Egypt over the constitutionality of exempting minister of justice Ahmed el-Zend from office, al-Bawaba News reported Monday. Egypt's constitution stipulates that parliament should approve the move before officially announcing it, especially because the decision was issued by the Prime Minister, not the President, according to MP Ahmed Helmy Al-Sherif. MP Ehab el-Kholy has affirmed the constitution deals with the cabinet reshuffle, not sacking a minister. Parliamentarians are working on studying the article, to rule the constitutionality of the move. Egypt's justice minister was asked to resign by the prime minister, according to judicial sources, for his comments during a televised interview on Sada El-Balad channel saying he would jail Prophet Muhammad himself if he broke the law.
