Egypt's police arrested 70 suspects in South Sinai Province over terror-related charges, Al Bawaba News reported on Friday.
The detainees were planning to attack vital institutions coinciding with the inauguration of the new Suez Canal due on Aug. 6, police said.
"This wider security campaign aimed to arrest the outlawed, to seize unlicensed weapons and to spread the spirit of reassurance among citizens," police said.
