Egypt's civil defense forces defused Friday an improvised explosive device (IED) in Shebin Al Koum, Menoufeya province, Al Bawaba News reported. The IED, planted near the city's Liver Institute, contained explosives and gunpowder, police said. A security cordon was made around the scene. The whole area was totally combed for fear of other potential threats. Since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi, July 2013, a string of deadly attacks hit Egypt, killing and wounding dozens, mostly among police personnel.
