An improvised explosive device (IED) exploded Friday in Helwan neighborhood, south of the capital Cairo, wounding one police officer, Al Bawaba News reported. Bomb disposal experts were deployed immediately to the blast scene to scan the area for other potential threats. Security sources said that the IED was planted near the district's cement club, adding that the wounded officer, whose name and age were not released, was transferred to the Military Production Hospital for treatment. Since the ouster of MB rule, July 2013, Egypt has been hit by a string of deadly blasts claiming hundreds of lives, mostly among security personnel.
