Secretary General of the Arab League, Nabil Al-Arabi praised the calls of Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi for a Joint Arab Military Force to counter terrorism, in a statement released Monday. Al-Arabi also praised the timing of launching such initiative and described it as "the very important". He said that President Sisi's speech, which was delivered late Sunday, addressed the major challenges that the whole region has been facing recently, noting that the Arab League (AL) had issued a recommendation on September 7, 2014 calling the Arab states to discuss the possible solutions for countering terrorist threats in the Middle East. The secretary-general pointed out that the AL's recommendation called for a comprehensive action confronting of terrorism; politically, military, and even culturally, referring to the necessity of developing the religious speech and education systems. Al-Araby revealed that he sent formal messages to the Arab foreign ministers asking them about their countries' opinion about activating the Joint Defense and Economic Co-operation Treaty of 1950 which stipulates that all the Arab League member states must coordinate to counter any offensive against any of the member states. He added that the next session of AL in March will witness the discussion of activating that treaty as well as the calls of forming a joint military forces announced by President Sisi.
