Duroub gallery presents the latest exhibition of paintings entitled “Water Colours from Greece and Nubia” by gifted painter Galal Al-Husseini. The artist has travelled a lot visiting a number of countries from the East to the West passing by the Greek islands and Nubia to document for the viewer the ravishing beauty of the landscape in these places through his brilliant use of the aquarelle and his daring and cheerful palette of colours. The exhibition showcases 40 miscellaneous paintings depicting spectacular scenes from the landscapes he encountered during his last trip to the Greek Islands specifically Saint Trueno and Mykonos islands with its beautifully constructed houses directly over the sea and a museum for folk heritage. Al-Husseini was infatuated by the folk traditions and the islands' people and the folk dances they perform wearing their traditional costumes. However, the trip proceeded his journey to Greece was through the River Nile heading for Nubia or the lands of gold. Al-Husseini's eyes captured the beauty of Nubia which he restored in his heart and his vivid imagination echoing it on canvas using aquarelle as his favourite art media. His brush strokes depicted the traditions of the Nubian and their culture documenting their feasts and musical carnivals playing on their famous traditional drums, mazamir (flutes) and dofouf. Through the collection of paintings covering the gallery's walls, the painter aimed at sharing his frivolous experience in both journeys with his audience; which left on him different feelings and impressions that he managed to masterfully reflect through the medium of the aquarelle. The show runs through 15 November.
