"Nile Houses" is the latest exhibition of aquarelle paintings by naïve artistAhmed Abdel-Gawad currently on display at Salah Taher gallerylocated in the Cairo Opera Complex. Born in Aswan, Abdel-Gawad is infatuated by the ravishingly beautiful nature of his birthplace which is brilliantly reflected in these collection of paintings depicting the traditional houses built along the Nile banks. He also painted on paper Aswan's famous palm trees and Nile boats. Being a spontaneous artist, Abdel-Gawad captures quick shots from nature and paints them directly using natural colours such as dyes blending them masterfully with aquarelle. He is distinguished among his peers for this very special technique that produces a unique effect of fading colours relying on watering the surface before starting to spread colours over it. He held several solo exhibitions in Egypt, Cyprus and the Egyptian Cultural Centre in Paris, in addition to a number of group shows. He received a number of prestigious awards and medals of recognition. The exhibition ends 8 January.
