Duroubgalleryin Garden City is currently hosting the “Small Art Works” group exhibition that features 60 artists from different generations representing a variety of art movements and was inaugurated by veteran artist Wagih Yassa. It is the gallery's annual exhibition and this year it honours Yassa. Among the participating artists is the pioneer architect Galal Al-Husseini, who resumes painting in aquarelle, a tough material that requires a master artist to deal with and control. He depicts new scenes from the Egyptian life on canvas and his works are characterised by its warm colours and romantic lines that are harmoniously interwoven, a style distinguished him among his peers. He is famous for painting the greenery of Egypt, the ravishingly beautiful scenes of the sailing boats with palm trees on the banks of the River Nile, however, the pigeon as a bird is a common element in most of his paintings. Born in December in 1935, he enrolled in the Faculty of Fine Arts, architecture department and was graduated in 1960. He held several solo exhibitions and participated in a number of collective shows. Forty years past, his love affair with art started as an amateur creating oil paintings then he moved to aquarelle when he felt it is his favourite art medium. “Altering from oil colours to aquarelle is an old story that goes back to my school years when I used to favour painting in aquarelle and my art professors used to praise my works and encourage me to continue in this path,” the artist explained. The exhibition is running through 7 January.
