Exceptionally gifted artist, who is based in Canada, Wagih Yassa's strong come back to Egypt is his first exhibition entitled "Serenading with Colours" currently on show at Duroubgallery located in Garden City. He showcases 45 paintings using different art media such as aquarelle and oil colours varying between portraits, still life, and landscapes.
Yassa masters painting with aquarelle which is an extremely specialised art media, however, he managed to deal with it in a brilliant style that enabled him to express his feelings freely and he also succeeded to distribute the aquarelle colours with freedom and high skills. Each painting is distinguished from the other arousing a different and special feeling inside the audience. His aquarelle works are characterised by the illumination of light emanating from them exhibiting an optimistic and upbeat sense of life. Artist Samir Fouad commented on the exhibition saying, "Despite living far from his homeland, Yassa's paintings reflect his longing to Egypt and his deep love for its sun and nature that he never forgot during his long stay in Canada."
Yassa obtained his bachelor of arts in English Language and Literature at the Faculty of Arts English Department, Cairo University. He joined the team of illustrators at Rose Al-Youssef and Sabah Al-Kheir magazines before deciding to stay in Canada where he opened his private art gallery. He created portraits for a number of Canadian figures and has been internationally approved as one of the most gifted portrait artists during the Toronto International Art Festival took place in 2008.
The exhibition is running through 28 April.
