TheZamalekGezira Art Centre'sfourhallsshowcases art creations by four gifted artists: Kamal Al-Feki, Ahmed Al-Ghaafari, Nagwa Al-Ashri and Gamal Meleka. Each artist has a hall all for his or her art. “Resurrection”, is the title of the Italian-based Egyptian artist Gamal Meleka's thrilling exhibition of paintings and sculptures. The exhibition features a collection of the artist's recent gold mural paintings and sculptures made of gypsum, wires, dyes as well as a number of infrequent art media. Meleka has a very unique style in painting what brilliantly highlights the Egyptian identity through his use of gold and bronze colours and icons that recall ancient Egyptian civilisation. Meleka's technique moves masterfully between the authentic and the modern, and is based on the sensual and moving. His works have been shown in museums, exhibitions and artistic gatherings including the Modern Art Exhibition in Rome, the Egyptian Consulate in Italy, and the Egyptian-Italian Relations Development Centre in Italy. He took part in the 9th Cairo International Biennial where he was awarded the biennial's first prize for his work entitled “Inside the Bar Code”. He also participated in the Book Art Biennial at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the 3rd Tehran International Biennial for Modern Art. The internationally acclaimed artist was awarded the 2011 Italian Award of Criticism in Arts as the best sculptor in 2011. The exhibition is on until 16 December.
