Path of Hope: The revolution in drawings and sculpture An exhibition featuring the work of two Egyptian artists living abroad reflects post-revolutionary hopes for a new Egypt
“Path of Hope,” an exhibition featuring drawings and sculpture inspired by Egypt's recent revolution by two Egyptian expatriate artists, will open early next month at Cairo's Safarkhan Gallery. The exhibition will include work by Alyaa Kamel, a young Egyptian artist living and exhibiting in Switzerland, who will be showing her latest drawings in black and red ink. "I have attempted to recreate the beauty of what I have seen all these years, notably the recent strife, in which the vast spectrum of human emotions - resentment, tears and laughter - was at centre-stage,” says Kamel. “The exhibition is an expression of hope - hope for a better life waiting for us.” “Path of Hope” will also feature sculpture by Gamal Meleka, an Egyptian painter and sculptor living in Milan, whose latest works depict Egypt's revolutionary youth in strips of iron wire.
