Entre Nous: Dressing by the Zodiac
Published in Al-Ahram Weekly on 31 - 12 - 2014

Have you ever stopped to wonder why you choose a specific outfit to make the best impression or why you feel powerful in red? Believe it or not, your fashion destiny is written in the stars. It may sound a little crazy, but astrologers believe that the cosmos has a certain power over our style profile. And the more we understand that power, the more we can harness it to our sartorial advantage.
So, if you want to look stylish, sexy and confident, stop worrying about what other people think and dress according to your birth sign.
This two-part series would allow you to know what your horoscope says you should be wearing whatever your age, shape or size.

Capricorn (22 December – 19 January)
STYLE: A Capricorn woman intuitively understands how to dress for the occasion and you should simply trust your instincts. You're all about effortless sophistication. Tailored pieces like blazers, trousers and luxurious fabrics should be your wardrobe mainstays. Soft, distinguished and essentially conservative, the little black dress is a Capricorn favourite.
COLOURS: Capricorn women should steer clear of bright, breezy colours. Dark shades including indigo, green, grey, brown or black are perfect for your stylish elegance.

Aquarius (20 January – 18 February)
STYLE: You are individualistic with a strong sense of your own style and personality. You love casual dress as you need to be free to express yourself in your clothing and not be hemmed in by restrictive clothes, tight-fitting trousers or jackets in dark colours. Being unusually gifted with an ability to carry off all kinds of styles, the unconventional Aquarius woman doesn't care what anyone thinks, as long as boring isn't in the equation. An eccentric pair of shoes or a dramatic piece of jewellery could tune your look.
COLOURS: Bright vivid colours, especially electric blue, violet, turquoise and red are your colours.

Pisces (19 February – 20 March)
STYLE: As a Pisces woman, your sense of romance should extend to your wardrobe. Look for feminine silhouettes, as your clothes should follow the curves and movements of your body. Go for soft, sensuous fabrics, and lots of dresses and skirts.
Shoes should be pretty little pumps or sandals to be able to move easily and freely. Try to avoid high heels and thigh-length boots.
COLOURS: Pastels like lavender, sea-foam green, pink, and light blue are good for you. Also try silver or gold and reflective white and green. But avoid bold colours and patterns.

Aries (21 March – 19 April)
STYLE: Aries women are strong, naturally confident and combative. Your star sign is most associated with action and your clothes reflect this. Sharply defined, smartly tailored clothes are what you should be wearing. You shouldn't be afraid to try new trends, seek out daring silhouettes, and statement accessories.
COLOURS: Red is the best colour for your nature in addition to other bold colours.

Taurus (20 April – May 20)
STYLE: Taurus might be gentle and sweet, but you are also very stubborn. For you, style is synonymous with quality. You appreciate fine craftsmanship. Because Taurus is an essentially feminine sign, you should waft around in a cloud of exquisitely delicate fabric. You have a special liking for floral prints. Bold patterns and sharp cuts should be avoided.
COLOURS: You love pastel colours that are soft and sensual: blues, earth tones, and neutrals. Avoid bright colours.

Gemini (21 May – 20 June)
STYLE: Given the dualistic nature of the Gemini woman, your wardrobe can seem a bit all over the place. You love cheerful patterns and breezy comfortable styles. Being a fun-loving and quirky woman, anything too serious or dark is wrong for you. Gemini women love clothes that are adaptable and versatile — reversible jackets, skirts that double as dresses or trousers that transform into shorts are perfect for you along with some fun accessories that speak to your inner magpie. Executive suits in dark blues, blacks or greys are too conventional.
COLOURS: Vibrant yellows, orange, magenta and bright neons.
