Zamalek outcast Shikabala close to joining Lisbon: Agent Egyptian international reportedly close to beginning a second stint in Europe, this time with Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon
Zamalek playmaker Mahmoud 'Shikabala' Abdel-Razeq is close to joining Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon, football agent Abdel-Rahman Magdy said on Wednesday. In December Shikabala unilaterally terminated his contract with Zamalek, claiming the club owed him money. "Shikabala is close to join Sporting Lisbon within hours," said Magdy, who claims to be the Portuguese club's agent and the deal's middleman, via Twitter. "There are some small details that need to be settled or the deal will not be finalised at all. Sporting Lisbon's pursuit of Shikabala means they know him well and consider him exceptional," the agent added. Zamalek's new coach Ahmed Hossam 'Mido' said recently he would try to coax Shikabala into staying put but the temperamental player stood firm in protest at his unpaid salary. Shikabala, a product of Zamalek's youth academy, is a fan favourite but is often criticised for failing to live up to his potential due to some off-field antics. His only spell in Europe was with Greek side PAOK between 2005 and 2007. Lisbon are currently second in the Portuguese league table with 37 points, two behind leaders Benfica.
