Ahly's Mauritanian striker Dominique Da Silva refused to join Saudi club Al-Faisly in the winter transfer window, although he has been kept on sidelines for quite a while.
"Dominique refused Al-Faisly offer to sign him. The board was fine with either selling the player permanently or sending him out on loan, but he turned down the Saudi club," Ahly said in a statement in its official website on Monday.
"The player asked football committee to stay put until he receives other good offers," the statement added.
Blessed with strength and speed, Da Silva joined Ahly in 2011. The former Esperance striker, who turned 24 in August, sustained several injuries that hampered his run and now is set to part ways African Champions.
Under the guidance of coach Mohamed Youssef, Ahly, are eager to strengthen their frontline especially after the disciplinary decision to put striker Ahmed Abdel-Zaher up for sale.
"We have been monitoring a number of African strikers and now we are close to signing one of them who plays in one of the Arab leagues," Ahly football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz said on Monday without revealing any details.
After its recent failure at the Club World Cup in Morocco, Ahly is currently preparing for the Egyptian league new season that will kick off on Tuesday.
The Red Devils will take on El-Entag El-Harby at the tournament's opener on Thursday.
