You will be responsible for any troubles in Cairo, Ghana tells FIFA Ghana's Football Association says it will hold FIFA responsible for any troubles in Cairo when the Black Stars face Egypt in the second leg of the World Cup qualifying playoff
Ghana's Football Association (GFA) said FIFA will be held responsible if the Black Stars face any troubles in Cairo when they face Egypt later this month in the second leg of the World Cup playoff. FIFA has given Egypt the green light to host the match in Cairo despite lingering security concerns in the turmoil-stricken country. Ghana's request that FIFA relocate the match was turned down by the world governing body, which was given security assurances by Egypt ahead of the 19 November game. “We will hold FIFA responsible because it is FIFA who owns the competition,” Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi was quoted as saying by Ghanasoccernet. “And FIFA has relied on the advice of the government of Egypt to sanction the match and so if any mishap occurs FIFA must be held responsible and no one else.” Ghana are firm favourites to reach next year's World Cup finals in Brazil after hammering Egypt 6-1 in Kumasi in the first leg. The second leg will take place at the army-owned Air Defence Stadium, which can host up to 30,000 spectators. “When FIFA ruled that the match should go on in Cairo we were a bit surprised considering the security situation in the country,” Nyantakyi added. “But they took the decision based on the acceptance of the guarantees by the Egyptian government.” (For more sports news and updates, follow Ahram Online Sports on Twitter at@AO_Sportsand on Facebook atAhramOnlineSports.) http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/85337.aspx
