Mobile and internet services in parts of Greater Cairo were disrupted for three hours early on Thursday due to fibre optic cable works near the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), Egypt's telecoms regulator said. The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) said the works involved rerouting cables in Telecom Egypt's main transmission network, which also connects mobile operators Vodafone, Orange, e&, and WE. Services were interrupted between 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. local time (00:00–03:00 GMT), the NTRA said in a statement. It added that coordination with Telecom Egypt and the operators helped expedite the transfer and restore connectivity. The regulator apologised for any inconvenience caused to users.
