Egypt's telecom regulator said Monday that a fire at the Ramses Exchange, one of Telecom Egypt's main network hubs, caused temporary disruptions to fixed internet and mobile services nationwide. The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) confirmed the fire has been brought under control and that cooling operations are ongoing. Fixed internet traffic was fully redirected to the Rod El Farag exchange to maintain service continuity. "The impact of the fire on services is limited, and emergency services remain fully operational," the NTRA said in an official statement. It added that some transmission circuits were damaged, resulting in partial disruptions to voice and data services across Egypt's three mobile network operators. Technical teams from Telecom Egypt and the mobile providers are working to restore the affected circuits and reroute traffic through other exchanges. Full restoration is expected within 24 hours. The NTRA reported minor service interruptions to landline and mobile networks in the area surrounding the Ramses Exchange in central Cairo, with services gradually returning to normal. Alternative contact numbers have been made available for customers in affected areas. The regulator apologised for the inconvenience and said it would compensate affected users in accordance with its regulatory framework. Additional updates will follow as restoration efforts progress.
