Ghana 'cannot risk lives' of their players ahead of Egypt clash Ghana insist the second leg of their World Cup playoff against Egypt should be moved from Cairo due to security concerns
Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi said the Black Stars would be risking the lives of their players if the World Cup qualifying playoff second-leg against Egypt took place in Cairo as scheduled. Egypt are due to host Ghana at the army-owned Air Defence Stadium in Cairo on 19 November despite security concerns in the turmoil-stricken country, where most of the recent games involving the likes of Ahly and Zamalek were played in the Red Sea resort of El-Gouna behind closed doors. Ghana demanded that the match be moved to a neutral venue, prompting world governing body FIFA to ask Egypt to provide "comprehensive security guarantees" by 28 October. "My strongest conviction is that the match should be moved away from Cairo because I think security is seriously compromised in Cairo and the situation keeps escalating day in day out," Ghanasoccernet.com quoted Nyantakyi as telling Accra-based Joy FM. "We cannot risk the lives of our players, officials and supporters by going to Cairo, I do not think that anylife lost is replaceable and so in the interest of fairness and security it is better for FIFA to look outside Egypt for a venue for the match." Ghana are on the verge of booking their place in next year's World Cup finals in Brazil after hammering Egypt 6-1 in Kumasi in the first leg last week.
