Egypt fit enough to host and secure Ghana: EFA Egyptian Football Association replies to FIFA letter guaranteeing provision of adequate security for November Ghana play-off in Cairo
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has informed the world governing body FIFA that they are ready to host and secure Ghana when they arrive in Cairo to face the Pharaohs for the 2014 World Cup qualifier playoff. FIFA sent a letter to the EFA on Saturday giving them 17 days to provide security guarantees if they are to host Ghana in Cairo for the second leg of the playoff on 19 November. EFA spokesman Azmy Megahed said that the letters sent to the football associations of Ghana and Egypt are only a formality. The EFA informed FIFA's secretary-general Jerome Valcke in a written response to their letter just a few hours later: "Egypt is a safe nation and life goes on as normal across the country." "The clashes you mentioned relate to individual incidents that can happen in any country," the letter added. "We have a definite security plan for the Ghana crew before and after the game, as well as for the security of FIFA members (referees and officials)." "It's not the first time Egypt will host such events, and the Egyptian people are waiting for the arrival of the visitors," the letter concluded. Ghana, who will host Egypt in the first leg in Kumasi on Tuesday, had asked FIFA to move the second-leg from Cairo, where the match is scheduled to be played at the army-owned Air Defence Stadium, after a recent flare-up in violence within the turmoil-stricken country.
