Zamalek Ultras White Knights seek 'revenge' after member death Grievances against club leadership escalate after fan dies from gunshot wound incurred during Thursday protest
Zamalek's Ultras White Knights, a group of the football club's hardcore fans, have threatened revenge against the club's management after the death of one of its members. Amr Hussein, a member of the Ultras White Knights, died in the hospital on Monday after sustaining a gunshot wound during Thursday's clashes between group members and security forces. "Hussein's blood was not lost in vain," the group said in a Facebook statement on Monday night, calling on all members to gather in order to march towards the club. The Ultras had stormed the club's headquarters on Thursday following a protest demanding changes to the club's leadership. They reportedly torched a number of buildings inside the club, which is located in the Mit Okba district nearby Mohandiseen. Clashes occurred between security forces and the Ultras members, leaving some injured and others arrested. Under the guidance of head coach Helmy Toulan, Zamalek has won only twice in six games this year, losing in three and drawing in the other. Ultras White Knights members have demanded the resignation of team chairman Mamdouh Abbas and head coach Toulan for "failure in club leadership" following the team's inability to qualify for the CAF Champions League semi-finals.
