The Premier League side Sunderland has revealed that they took the buy-out option to sign Egyptian international player Ahmed Elmohamady from ENPPI on Friday.
“Sunderland have today informed Egyptian Premier League club ENPPI that they will exercise the option to sign midfielder Ahmed Elmohamady on a permanent contract,” a statement said on the club's official website.
The 23-year old joined the Black Cats in the summer of 2010 for a season-long loan worth £500,000, with a buy-out clause at £2 million next summer.
The former Ghazl El-Mahala player made a big impact with the Black Cats and managed to settle in coach Steve Bruce starting lineup playing 27 games 19 as a starter.
Bruce has severely expressed his desire to keep his hot prospect and his confidence in his potential.
“Elmohamady is a great professional player as he settled into the club and is eager to learn” Steve Bruce was quoted as saying in Sunderland official site.
“He is performing well with the unique of demands of the Premier League and there's still much more to come from him,” he added.
The Pharaohs right-winger has been included in the African Best XI in 2010 after his impressive display at Sunderland and described as a good ambassador for Egypt and Africa in Europe.
Earlier this month, ENNPI football director Alaa Abdel-Sadek revealed to Ahram Online that Sunderland sent a fax confirming their will to take their option on Elmohamady.
