Egypt goalkeeper to miss World Cup qualifier after rib injury Egypt and Zamalek goalkeeper Abdel-Wahed El-Sayed sustains a rib injury during the national team preparations for Sunday's World Cup qualifier at Zimbabwe Egypt
Egypt goalkeeper Abdel-Wahed El-Sayed has been ruled out of the Sunday's World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe in Harare after sustaining a rib injury. "Abdel-Wahed El-Sayed sustained a rib injury during the national team's training in Zimbabwe on Friday," read a statement on the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) website. The 36-year-old Egypt skipper was taken to a hospital to undergo scans and determine the extent of the injury. "Hassan Farid, the head of Egypt's delegation in Zimbabwe, is in talks with coach Bradley to determine who will be called up as a replacement," the statement added. Understudy custodian Sherif Ekramy, who has put in some impressive displays with Cairo giants Ahly recently, is likely to stand between the sticks when Egypt face Zimbabwe on Sunday. He is also expected to feature against Mozambique in their next World Cup qualifier seven days later. Egypt are on top of Group G of the World Cup qualifiers with nine points, five ahead of second-placed Guinea and seven clear of Mozambique with three matches remaining. Zimbabwe lie at the bottom with a solitary point. The seven-time African champions could secure their place in the final round with two matches to spare if they beat Zimbabwe and Guinea fail to overcome Mozambique.
