Egypt relishing Ghaly, Hegazy return ahead of World Cup qualifiers
Pharaohs technical staff eyes the return of Ghaly and Hegazy to cover the absence of injured Gedo, Abd-Rabou and Rabiea
Published in Ahram Online on 04 - 05 - 2013

Egypt duo, midfielder Hossam Ghaly and defender Ahmed Hegazy, could be the Pharaohs' saviours in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Mozambique on 9 and 16 June, respectively.
Ahly skipper Ghaly is supposed to return to action by the mid of May since he progressed in recovery from a knee surgery to repair a rupture in his anterior knee ligament.
Likewise, 21-year-old Fiorentina defender, Heagzy, has just returned to the Viola training sessions after making a full recovery from knee ligament surgery in December.
"The technical staff is monitoring the situation of both Ghaly and Hegazy. We hope they return to their best form ahead of the two World Cup qualifiers because we need them to cover the gap of some pivotal players," Egypt's goalkeepers coach Zaki Abdel-Fattah told Ahram Sport late on Friday.
No hope for Gedo, Abd-Rabou and Rabiea
Under the guidance of American coach Bob Bradley, Egypt is in the bid for the World Cup for the first time since 1990, but the training camp was dealt a blow recently when key players Mohamed Nagy "Gedo", Hosni Abd-Rabou and Rami Rabiea sustained lenghty injuries.
"The trio will not be available for Zimbabwe and Mozambique clashes because they could be sidelined for a long time," Abdel-Fattah explained.
Ismaily midfielder Hosni Abd-Rabou will be out of action for five months after undergoing a successful knee surgery last week, while Hull City striker Gedo faces a lengthy spell out due to a foot injury.
Ahly defender Rabiea suffers a knee cartilage damage that will keep him out of action at least four weeks.
Egypt have made a perfect start to their qualifying campaign, collecting the maximum nine points from three games.
They are five points ahead of Guinea and seven clear of third-placed Mozambique with three matches remaining.
