Egypt defender Hegazy misses action for months at Fiorentina The unlucky Egyptian defender had a successful knee surgery that will sideline him for months
Egypt and Fiorentina defender Ahmed Hegazy underwent a successful surgery to repair a torn knee ligament and will be out of action for at least five months. The Pharaohs stopper suffered a rupture in his anterior knee ligament during Monday's training session. It is huge blow for the 21-year-old player, who only made his debut for Viola two weeks ago since joining them in the summer. "Hegazy has undergone reconstructive surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament. The operation, performed by Prof. Pier Paolo Mariani at Villa Stuart in Rome, was a complete success," a statement read on the club's official website late on Friday. "The expected recovery period before the player can return to sport activity is 5-6 months," added the statement. Hegazy, who made a huge impact scoring in Fiorentina's 2-0 win over Juve Stabia in the fourth round of the Italian Cup, would be a major doubt for Egypt's world cup qualifier against Zimbabwe in March 2013.
