Soliman, Rahil earn Egypt call-up to replace injured duo Ahly winger Walid Soliman and Zamalek left-back Sabri Rahil included in Egypt's provisional squad for the two World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Mozambique
Ahly's Walid Soliman, who recently hit out at Egypt coach Bob Bradley after being left out of Egypt's provisional squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, was eventually named in the roster due to the injury of Zamalek midfielder Nour El-Sayed. Zamalek's Sabri Rahil was also included in the 30-man squad after club teammate Mohamed Abdel-Shafy, Egypt's regular left-back, picked up a knee injury, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) said on its website. Winger Soliman, who has produced some impressive displays since recovering from a knee injury last month, accused American boss Bradley of favouritism towards certain players. "Bradley has favoured certain players when naming the squad, which included players who have not been playing regularly with their teams lately," he said on Wednesday. "Joining the national team now only depends on the personal relationships [between Bradley and the players]." The 28-year-old is lauded for his penetrating runs down the flanks and accurate shots. He helped Ahly to a late 2-1 comeback victory over ENPPI in the Egyptian Premier League on Tuesday after levelling the score with four minutes remaining, thanks to a superb first-time low shot. Egypt will face Botswana in a friendly game on Tuesday before flying to Zimbabwe for a World Cup qualifying Group G game on 9 June. The Pharaohs will also face Mozambique away from home seven days later. The seven-time African champions are on top of the group with nine points, five ahead of second-placed Guinea and seven clear of Mozambique with three matches remaining. Zimbabwe lie at the bottom with a solitary point. The winners of the 10 groups will advance to a two-legged playoff to determine Africa's five representatives at next year's World Cup in Brazil.
