Equalling Lionel Messi's goal tally at the Club World Cup motivates Mohamed Abou-Treika to do his best and help Ahly reach the competition's final, the Egyptian playmaker said on Tuesday.
The veteran schemer, who is arguably one of Egypt's best-ever footballers, gave Ahly a 2-1 victory over Japan's Sanfrecce Hiroshima on Sunday with a trademark poacher's goal after the break.
It was his fourth goal in the Club World Cup, putting on him on level with Argentinean wizard Messi of Barcelona.
“I hope that equalling Messi's record will be a motivation for me and my teammates to reach the Club World Cup final. This is my dream,” Abou-Treika said in an interview with Ahly's official website.
The Red Devils claimed a hard-fought win over hosts Hiroshima to set-up a tough encounter against Brazilian outfit and Copa Libertadores winners Corinthians, who were given a bye into the semis.
“Matches against Brazilian opponents are always entertaining. I want to give it my all,” Abou-Treika added.
“I've been always an admirer of Brazilian football. I like Socrates and Zico very much.”
