Thursday 21 June Ofouky Music Forum in El-Cabina starting 5.30pm The forum hosted by Gudran Association in Alexandria mixes film screenings, live music performances and workshops. Tonight at 5.30pm there will be a film screening of La Vie en Rose, the cinematic tribute to the French singing legend Edith Piaf, and at 8pmthe Wasla Band from Alexandria will perform alternative pop, followed by the Meshwar Band from Cairo performing Reggea. More info here 11 Saint Saba Street, Downtown, Alexandria Film Screening of Salvador Puig Antich at the Artistic Creativity Centre at 6pm This 2004 production by Manuel Huerga was part of the Un Certain Regard programme at Cannes in 2006. It tells the story of the last execution under Franco, following the family, colleagues and lawyers of a young militant of the Iberian Liberation Movement, Puig Antich, and their attempts to prevent his execution. Cairo Opera House Grounds, Zamalek, Cairo Uss W Laz' concert in Sufi Bookstore at 8pm Uss w Laz' (Cut and Paste) are named after the original children's game: they mix genres. The band, which focuses on social issues, has been performing since 2006 and has played in several music festivals 12 Sayed El Bakry Street, Zamalek, Cairo Ali Talibab and El Deeb concert in El-Geneina Theater at 8.30pm A hip hop-filled night on El Geneina's open-air stage Azhar Park, Salah Salem Road, Cairo Friday 22 June Ofouky Music Forum in El-Cabina starting 5.30pm After a screening of Bird, the film about the jazz saxophonist Charlie “Bird” Parker at 5.30pm, Simplexity Band from Aleandria will perform at 8pm, followed by Darwasha Band from Cairo; both playing progressive rock music. More info here 11 Saint Saba Street, Downtown, Alexandria Film Screening of The Secret of Santa Vittoria in Sufi Bookstore at 7pm This 1969 comedy directed by Stanely Kramer is set during World War II in Italy, where a wine producers' village hides bottles of wine from the German soldiers 12 Sayed El Bakry Street, Zamalek, Cairo Ahmed Nazmi Trio in El-Geneina Theater at 8.30pm The trio bring to El-Geneina their unique blend of contemporary bass techniques with Egyptian and Afro tunes Azhar Park, Salah Salem Road, Cairo Saturday 23 June Ofouky Music Forum in El-Cabina starting 5.30pm ImmortalBeloved, on the life of Beethoven, followed by Storm and Like Jelly from Alexandria and Cairo, respectively, playing contemporary music and putting on a standup comedy show. More info here 11 Saint Saba Street, Downtown Alexandria Paintbeat in 10 Mahmoud Bassiouny at 7pm 10 Mahmoud Bassiouny space, in cooperation with the drum circle-host Bongoz, produce this fusion of visual art and music: people painting to the beats of the drum. The organisers suggest people should come in clothes they don't mind having covered in paint and bring along a good dose of energy 10 Mahmoud Bassiouny, Downtown, Cairo Sit down, I'll Tell You a Story Photography exhibition at Mashrabiya Gallery The exhibition is a collection of photographs of chairs with text telling their stories.“A chair can tell you wishes, hopes and doubts. They are witnesses of human troubles or achievements. You can often find scars on them,” says the gallery.The photography is by Mauro L'Abate and the text by Consuelo Costa.
