Abdel-Moneim Abul-Fotouh submits presidential candidacy papers after gathering more than 45,000 recommendations from supporters

Egyptian presidential candidate Abdel-Moneim Abul-Fotouh submitted his candidacy papers to the Higher Presidential Elections Commission (HPEC) on Thursday morning.
Abul-Fotouh told supporters waiting outside the HPEC that he had been able to gather more than 45,000 recommendations. Egyptian law stipulates that any presidential candidate needs either 30,000 recommendations from 15 different governorates, recommendations from 30 MPs, or to be registered as a party candidate before 8 April.
Abul-Fotouh is a former member of the Muslim Brotherhood and a frontrunnerin the presidential race.
