Egypt-German renewable energy conference to take place Sunday Event attended by major German firms aims to highlight investment opportunities in Egypt's burgeoning renewable energies sector
Egypt's minister of electricity and energy, Hassan Younis and the German ambassador to the country, Michael Bock, will inaugurate the fourth Egyptian-German day for renewable energies in Cairo on Sunday. The event, organised by the German-Arab Chamber for Industry and Commerce (GACIC) and involving a number of major German firms specialising in renewable energies, aims to highlight investment opportunities. The European Union has previously announced plans to import clean electricity from North Africa to cover 50 per cent of its energy needs by the year 2050, a move that is likely to involve large-scale operations in Egypt. Egypt's ministry of electricity and energy has previously announced it aims to produce 20 per cent of the county's electricity by renewable sourcse by 2020.
