Egypt's Ittihad to sign Merriekh's goalie El-Hadary Egypt goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary is expected to join his fourth top flight Egyptian club within the coming few days
Egypt's club Ittihad of Alexandria are in negotiations with their Sudanese counterpart Merriekh to land their veteran goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary. “We are currently in successful negotiations with Merriekh officials to sign El-Hadary during the current transfer window. I can confirm that the player will join us officially within the coming days,” Ittihad president Effat Elsadat told a TV program late on Tuesday. “Signing El-Hadary doesn't underestimate our successful goalkeeper El-Hany Soliman,” added Elsadat. The Pharaohs' long-time guard has not attended training with Merriekh since October, claiming that he had not received his salary for months, which club officials deny. The former Ismaily and Zamalek player lodged a complaint with FIFA against Merreikh asking for his contract to be terminated, as the club also filed a complaint at the same destination. El-Hadary played an instrumental role in helping Egypt win three successive African titles but has endured constant problems since leaving Egyptian champions Ahly in an acrimonious manner in 2008, before also having disputes with Egyptian clubs Ismaily and Zamalek. The 39-year-old keeper is now obliged to return to action soon as he is threatened to lose his place with the national team under the guidance of new American coach Bob Bradley who stressed that the player must play consistently.
