Egypt has dropped five places to 36 in FIFA's monthly global football rankings, released on 18 January. The Pharaohs remain the second ranked Arab team after losing their lead to Algeria two months ago, who dropped two places to 30 in the world. The winner of three consecutive African Cup of Nations titles remain the continent's fourth-ranked team, 18 places behind Ivory Coast, ten behind Ghana and six behind Algeria in the global rankings. Having once been in the top ten globally, and the highest ranked Arab and African team, Egypt has slipped down the rankings following a series of disappointing results. Under new American coach Bob Bradley, Egypt hasn't played since their 2-0 defeat to Brazil in November. The former US coach is tasked with leading Egypt to the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil, following the retirement of coach Hassan Shehata. World and European champions Spain stayed top of FIFA's rankings. The top 10 places remained the same after just 11 international matches were played last month.
