Egypt FIFA ranking slips in Arab world, Africa Egypt team comes in second in Arab world after Algeria, fourth in Africa, according to FIFA's monthly ranking
Egypt has dropped two places in FIFA's monthly global ranking, released 23 November, to No. 31. Egypt also lost their leading status among Arab countries, coming in second after Algeria, who jumped five places to come in 30th globally. After being second in Africa, Egypt are now the continent's fourth-ranked team, 15 places behind the Ivory Coast and one place behind Ghana (29) and Algeria (30). Under new American coach Bob Bradley, the Pharaohs have only played once this month, against Brazil in Qatari capital Doha, where they were dealt a 2-0 defeat in a friendly match. It's was Bradley's first game with the winners of seven African titles. The former US coach is supposed to lead them – following the dramatic retirement of coach Hassan Shehata – until 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil. Touted as the best manager Egypt has ever seen, Shehata ultimately disappointed after failing to take the team to the 2012 Gabon and Equatorial Guinea edition of the continental competition, which he had won three successive times. After a series of disappointing results, the Egyptian national team has continued to fall in world rankings, having once been in the top 10. In a related development, Spain extended its lead in the global rankings, despite losing a friendly to England, which climbs two places to stand at No. 5.
