Egypt jumps seven places in FIFA world rankings
Egypt moves forward in the global rankings, having only played one match and with its Olympic squad, this month
Published in Ahram Online on 19 - 10 - 2011

Egypt jumped up seven places in FIFA's monthly global ranking to no 29.
The Pharaohs, represented by Hany Ramzy's Olympic team, have only played one match this month for the 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifiers against group leaders Niger, winning 3-0 at Cairo Stadium.
The winners of three-successive African titles, Egypt has recently appointed former US national team manager Bob Bradley to lead them until the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil, following the dramatic retirement of coach Hassan Shehata. Touted as the best manager Egypt has ever seen, Shehata disappointed after failing to take the team to the Gabon and Equatorial Guinea edition of the continental competition.
After a series of disappointing results, the Egyptian national team has continued to fall in world rankings, having once been in the top 10.
Nevertheless, Egypt is still the highest ranking Arab team in the FIFA charts, ahead of North African rivals Algeria (35), Morocco (56) and Tunisia (60).
They are the second ranked team in Africa, 10 spots behind Ivory Coast and four places above Ghana.
Spain extended its lead in the world rankings, as Greece and Denmark entered the top 10.
