Liverpool's Salah admits tough challenge from Kane, Aguero
Published in Ahram Online on 23 - 02 - 2018

Liverpool's effervescent winger Mohamed Salah admitted he is facing a tough challenge from Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane and Manchester City's Sergio Aguero to finish as the Premier League top scorer.
The Egyptian international has taken the elite competition by storm since his summer arrival from AS Roma, proving one of the most effective signings in the off season after making an instant impact at Anfield.
With 11 matches remaining before the end of the season, Salah is the second highest scorer in the Premier League with 22 goals, one behind Kane and one ahead of Aguero in a three-man race for the award.
“Harry Kane and Aguero have been dominating the (top scorer award) for the past four or five years,” Salah said in Arabic during an interview with beIN Sports on Friday.
“I'm competing with two strikers so it's never easy because they are always close to goal, closer than me in a number nine position … but I'm playing for a certain target which is to help my team collect points and improve its position in the league.”
Salah's exploits were instrumental in Liverpool's rise to third in the Premier League, just two points behind second-placed Manchester United.
He also scored a superb goal to help Liverpool crush Porto 5-0 away from home in the first leg of the European Champions League last-16 tie.
The 25-year-old has recently credited Liverpool coach Juergen Klopp for his impressive goal-scoring form, which saw him score 30 goals in all competitions.
“With the boss here, I play a little bit closer to the goal, more so than at any other club or more than any of my other coaches have asked me to,” Salah told Liverpool's official matchday programme last Tuesday.
"So I am always in front of the goal to give me the opportunity to score. The manager is always telling me to stay close to the goal in training.”
