Art Alert: Please Do It Again exhibition unveils AUC senior projects
Published in Ahram Online on 08 - 05 - 2017

Senior art students from the American University in Cairo (AUC) will launch a group exhibition at the Sharjah Gallery on May 15, showing off their visual-art projects and a specially produced book of their work.
The first part of the exhibition, titled Please DO IT Again, presents work produced by seven students during their final year on the AUC's visual arts programme.
The featured students are: Farida Amr, Abdel Maksoud, Monia Ali Sakr, Nadine El-Rashidy, Rana Hany Khalil, Rola Ihab El-Missiery, Sandra Tamer Azer and Summaia El-Alfy.
The exhibition also includes a book documenting the research and artistic process of each project.
Another section of the exhibit showcases the fourteen final art projects of the Advanced Studio class.
The course was led by artist Magdalena Kallenberger, a member of the Cairo Bats photography group.
According to the exhibition description by artist and educator Shady El-Noshokaty, the course linked research practices with creativity by focusing on art archiving and how the collection, classification and studying of data can be considered “a stage in art production or as conceptual art in its own right.”
Exhibiting students in this section include: Farah Barakat, Farida Amr Abdel-Maksoud, Hana Zaki, Malak Shenouda, Mariam Shehata, Maryam El-Azzawy, Menna Ali, Mennatallah Afifi, Monia Ali Sakr, Nadine El-Rashidy, Nourhan Abou-Gabal, Rana Hany Khalil, Rola Ihab El-Missiery, and Sandra Tamer Azer.
Examining the relationship between the artwork and the viewer, Please DO IT Again is themed around curiosity, desire and the elusive, transformative nature of art.
“It proposes a form of this relation in two important areas of consciousness that might somehow be at paradox with each other: sensual desire and the desire for understanding and questioning,” the statement reads.
Programme:
The exhibition opens on 15 May and will run till 25 May
Sharjah Art Gallery, AUC New Campus, Road 90, New Cairo, Cairo
