Horizons of great Egyptian art director, Salah Marei 1970 film 'The Night of Counting the Years' will be screened Tuesday 2 April at the American University in Cairo as part of a 2-week commemoration of Art Director Salah Marei
As part of a two-week commemoration to well-known Egyptian cinematic art director, Salah Marei, the American University in Cairo (AUC) hosts an exhibition and screens films to which Marei contributed. On Tuesday 2 April, film El Momia (The Mummy, The Night of Counting the Years), directed by Shady Abdel-Salam, will be screened at the AUC's Malak Gabr's Theatre. Released in 1970, The Night of Counting the Years is among Marei's first experiences in the field with Shady Abdel Salam. Salah Marei passed away on 3 March 2011. Having worked in around 30 feature films, Marei signed off his career with the independent film In the Last Days of the City by Tamer El Saeed, which hehad volunteered to help out with. He was also a professor in the High Institute of Cinema, teaching the history of architecture and art direction andinspiring many students. AUC also hosts an exhibition in their Sharjah Art Gallery until 10 April in commemoration of the great Egyptian art director.
