Art Alert: 12 Angry Men inspires play at Alexandria's Teatro Eskendria
Published in Ahram Online on 21 - 11 - 2016

For three nights, a play titled Enaha Haqan Madina Mobhega (It is Truly a Joyful City) will be staged at Teatro Eskendria starting 27 November.
Directed by Abdelrahman Darwish, the play is performed by El-Ferqa Raqam 13 (Band Number 13), and is loosely adapted from the script for 12 Angry Men by American writer Reginald Rose, which centres on the jury in a homicide trial.
Rose's work was broadcast on radio, performed on stage, and adapted for film several times.
The play is written by Mohamed Casper and is set in a utopia called The City of Joy, where no one rules or is ruled, and there are no crimes and everyone is equal.
The city has equilibrium despite the fact that its residents differ in everything; religion, language, and ethnicity.
As follows, the main aim of the adaptation is to present a state of being that is joyous and where everyone is united in their love for their city.
However, something strange happens that threatens the foundation of this joyous city, the event description on Facebook reads.
Band Number 13 is a theatre troupe founded in 2015. They describe themselves as presenters of art from the people to the people.
Programme:
27, 28, 29 November, at 7pm
Teatro Eskenderia, 25 Fouad street, Raml Station, Alexandria
