Ahly's veteran striker Meteb asked to apologise after heated exchange with teammate Bust-up training infuriates caretaker coach Zizo ahead of Ahly's anticipated Cairo derby against Zamalek on Tuesday
Ahly's veteran striker Emad Meteb was kicked out of training and asked to apologise on Friday after he was involved in a heated exchange with teammate Saleh Gomaa, four days before the anticipated Cairo derby against arch-rivals Zamalek. Local reports said Ahly's caretaker coach Abdel-Aziz Abdel-Shafi 'Zizo' reprimanded Meteb following the training bust-up with Saleh, who joined the Red Devils in the summer from ENPPI after ending a brief loan spell with Portugal's Nacional. "Meteb is a great player but I had to expel him after what happened," Zizo, who led Ahly to three straight Egyptian Premier League wins after succeeding Portuguese boss Jose Peseiro, told reporters. "He needs to apologise if he is to take part in the game against Zamalek." Meteb has been one of the key players of a hugely successful Ahly side since he made his first team debut in 2004. The 32-year-old, who now plays a bit-part role with the Cairo giants, led the team to a host of titles including six Egyptian Premier Leagues and three African Champions Leagues. He is also lauded for many last-gasp goals which often prove decisive for Ahly. Saleh Gomaa has made a convincing start to his tenure at Ahly and is likely to start the derby against Zamalek. Ahly are on top of the league table with 35 points, four ahead of Zamalek after 15 matches.
