Head of Egypt's Illicit Gains Authority denies detecting Mubarak's foreign-based assets

Essam El-Gohary denies media reports that ousted president Hosni Mubarak's foreign based assets have been uncovered

Judge Essam El-Gohary, head of the Illicit Gains Authority, has strenuously denied that the foreign-based financial assets of toppled president Hosni Mubarak have been uncovered.
A state-run newspaper quoted El-Gohary as saying that Mubarak's wealth outside of Egypt had been tracked down.
The same report mentioned that most of the 83-year-old's assets had been located in the US and England as well as another five countries.
El-Gohary said on Friday: “I have not released such a statement to the paper, it is out of the imagination of its editors who will be legally questioned over publishing false information.
“The investigations [over Mubarak's wealth] are still underway,” added El-Gohary, who had previously hit out at people who “pontificate on illicit profiteering cases.”
“We are sparing no effort to restore the money that was transferred abroad in accordance to the law and relevant international treaties.”
Shortly after the January 25 Revolution, Mubarak, his family members and many of the ousted regime's figures were accused, among other charges, of abusing their political powers to illegally accrue vast wealth over many years.
Most of the defendants are in custody pending investigation.
