Mohamed Salah excelled to help Fiorentina to a 2-0 home win over Ukraine's Dynamo Kyiv that took them to the Europa League semi-final with a 3-1 aggregate victory on Thursday. Former Germany striker Mario Gomez opened the scoring two minutes before the break and substitute Manuel Vargas made sure of the win with a stoppage-time strike. Vargas had earlier replaced Egypt winger Salah, who was substituted with three minutes remaining after putting in a fine display. Salah, who is on loan from English Premier League leaders Chelsea, was unlucky not to score three minutes after the break when he held off his challenger on the right hand side of the penalty area before hitting a shot that deflected off a defender and struck the post. He also had a powerful shot palmed away by Dynamo keeper Oleksandr Shovkovskiy after eight minutes. Salah has scored 7 goals in 17 appearances in all competitions since joining Fiorentina in January, including one in the Europa League, the continent's secondary club competition. He found the net when Fiorentina defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the Europa League round of 16 in February. The 22-year-old has quickly become a fan favourite in Florence, with Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Montella saying he was likely to remain at the club beyond the end of his current loan deal, which expires in the summer.
