Coach Kwesi Appiah has left Ghana by mutual consent, the country's football association (GFA) confirmed on Friday. "The two parties met on Friday morning to reach the agreement on the departure of Mr. Appiah," the GFA said in a statement on its official website. "The lawyers of the two parties will meet next week to decide on the severance package for Mr. Appiah based on the contract of his appointment." Appiah leaves a few days after helping Ghana claim a 3-2 victory over Togo in an exciting African Cup of Nations qualifier. The Black Stars had opened their qualifying campaign with a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Uganda. The 54-year-old took over at the team in April 2012 and became the first African to steer Ghana to a World Cup place after they reached the 2014 Brazil finals. However, they failed to replicate their impressive showing at the 2010 finals after finishing bottom of their group with a solitary point. They still had a remarkable game in Brazil, having held eventual world champions Germany to a 2-2 draw in one of the most thrilling matches of the tournament. "The GFA wishes to thank Mr Appiah for his diligent service to the country as the coach of the Black Stars for the past two years," read the statement. "We wish him every success for the future."
