CAIRO: A protester who died after being run over by a Ministry of Interior vehicle was killed accidentally after a misunderstanding, according to a source inside the ministry. Security forces did not try to forcefully disperse a sit-in outside the Council of Ministries in downtown Cairo this morning, the source added. The source said that police deportation vehicles passed by on the street to the Ministry of Interior to change the security forces' night shift around the ministry. The protesters tried to stop the vehicles and make them take another road, said the source. The ranking officer stepped out of the vehicle and explained to the protesters that the forces are just heading to the Ministry of Interior and not trying to disperse the sit-in, said the source. The source also added, "The citizens understood and the vehicles started moving when a group of young men started to throw Molotov cocktails at the vehicles. One of the vehicles accidentally ran over a citizen in the ensuing chaos." The Ministry of Interior expresses its deep grief and offers its condolences to the dead citizen's family, said the source. The source also said that investigations regarding the incident are being held by the prosecution.
