The Democratic Alliance for Egypt said in a statement that it would participate in demonstrations Friday to protest a document containing basic constitutional principles. Six presidential candidates and 15 revolutionary movements and political parties announced that they would protest and abide by previously released guiding documents, including one approved by al-Azhar. A statement issued said a committee hoping to reform a constitutional principals' document released by deputy Prime Minister Ali el-Selmy did not arrive at a formula which would realize the people's sovereignty and national coherence. The alliance said the committee negotiated with Selmy in order to arrive at a formula satisfactory to all sides. However, they failed to reform some portions of the document. Political forces that participated in the Democratic Alliance conference on Nov. 13 gave the military council until Nov. 16 to accept their refusal of the Selmy document and return to the approved documents such as al-Azhar's guiding principles. The participants included the Freedom and Justice Party, the Tomorrow of Revolution, Arab Renaissance, Future Knights, the Justice Party, the Building and Development Party, the al-Wasat Party, the Generation Party, the Reformation and Renaissance Party, the Arab Unity Party, and the Work Party. Coalitions attending the conference included the Revolution Youth, the People Alliance, and the Free Front for Peaceful Change. Presidential candidates that attended the conference included Mohamed Selim al-Awa, Abdallah al-Ashaal, Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh, Amr Moussa, and Ayman Nour.
