ASWAN, Egypt: Violent clashes broke out before the security directorate of Aswan between the residents of Aswan and central security forces at 4:00 A.M. today November 13. Thousands of Nubians gathered in front of the Aswan educational hospital and organized a march until they reached the security directorate of Aswan yesterday November 12. The protests are against the policeman who killed a Nubian sailor in the Botanical Garden in Aswan. The protesters chanted slogans, demanding the punishment of the policeman who shot the sailor. The security directorate of Aswan imposed a security blockade around the directorate and around the protestors to prevent any attempts of violation. Central security forces tried to end the protests by force. The police club in Aswan was completely burned down. The Aswan directorate asked for more reinforcements and eight central security armored vehicles arrived at the directorate. Soldiers used tear gas and chased away the protestors. Head of Aswan security Hassan Mohamed assured the case is under investigation. The sailor who was killed Mohamed Ramadan, 30, died in the Aswan educational hospital a week after he was shot. On the first day of the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha, a group of sailors broke out into a fight in the Botanical Garden in Aswan. Policeman Mohamed interfered to end the fight, however, he broke into clashes with Ramadan and shot him. Medical sources in Aswan educational hospital said an 8.5 ml bullet penetrated Ramadan's abdomen, causing disruption of the liver, pancreas and duodenum.
