A number of Nubians attacked the Security Directorate of Aswan headquarters in protest of shooting a boatman in the Gezira botanical garden by a policeman during an quarrel between the two. Witnesses told Youm7 hundreds of Nubians from the village of West Aswan along with the family of the injured man gathered inside the teaching hospital, where the injured was transferred. The protesters moved in the direction of the Security Directorate of Aswan and cut off traffic on the Corniche Road. Troops from the military police and central security vehicles moved to protect the headquarters. Protesters smashed the front windows and the building of the Directorate after throwing stones and empty bottles. They also set fire to tires and tried to throw them at the directorate building, forcing the Central Security Forces to use of tear gas to disperse the protesters. The director of security in Aswan, Hassan Mohammed Hassan, was on vacation and returned to the province to follow-up on the events. Leader of al-Gamaa al-Islameya Sheikh Khalid el-Koussy intervened to calm the demonstrators and find a solution. The events began yesterday November 7 in the aftermath of an argument between a number of boatmen in the botanical garden, arguing about loading duty. Policeman Mohammed el-Garhy intervened to resolve the situation and ended up arguing with boatman Mohammed Ramadan Hilali, 30. The argument developed into a fist-fight and the policeman took out his gun and shot at Hilali, wounding him in the abdomen and injuring another the same way. Medical sources at the teaching hospital said Hilali arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound that penetrated the abdomen from the top and caused damage to his liver, pancreas and other organs and the bullet settled next to his spine. The bullet was extracted and the patient was checked into the intensive care unit of the hospital. The second patient received treatment and was discharged from the hospital because of his mild condition.
