A number of Syrian political activists held a protest before the Arab League in Tahrir Square in Cairo today Saturday November 5. The protestors demanded the freeze of Syrian membership in the Arab League after Syrian authorities broke the agreement of the Arab League and used violence against their civilians. Syrian activist Momen al-Kufateh said Syrian activists held a press conference demanding a new Arab League instead of the current one, which supports dictators, according to al-Kufateh. The Syrian activists demanded a new Arab League to be headed by Sudanese leader al-Sadek al-Mahdy. Meanwhile, Syrian activist Abdul Hamid Suleiman said he ran away from Syria after he was arrested for protesting. He demanded the Arab League to freeze the Syrian membership there and also demanded for international and Arab support for Syria. Suleiman said this is a decisive phase in the history of the Arab League; it should choose whether to be an Arab defender or a dictator defender. “The Syrian revolution began eight months ago, which confirmed the Syrians' bravery,” Suleiman said. “Official statistics reported 3,800 martyrs since the beginning of the revolution.”
