Salafi students at the Pharmaceutical College at Mansoura University prevented their colleagues from holding a concert Thursday, despite their official permission to hold the concert. The students prepared for the concert by building a theatre inside the college and holding an exhibition. The students obtained permission from the dean and the military governor. However, a group of Salafi students stopped the preparations and threatened the dean that in case the concert took place with “consequences.” When the students refused the Salafi students' attitude and their call to abolish the concert, Salafi students gathered. The students brought Salafi preacher Hazim Shuman who stood by them and asked the students to abolish the concert as it incites immorality. The students insisted on holding the concert. Salafi students threatened to pray in front of the theatre and read verses from the Quran in a loud voice to prevent the concert. “I tried to explain for them that the concert in a social event to introduce the new students, but they refused to listen,” said Ahmed Hasheesh, a concert organizer. "We insisted on holding the concert as we spent money for it,” he continued, “but five minutes after the beginning of the concert it stopped for half an hour. Then, it was held again for 20 minutes to finally be stopped, frustrating the students."
